Silver Pearl is owned by Barry and Julie Dudley, who both work full-time in the business as bookkeepers as well as managers, along with our fantastic administrator, Gaynor Fries. We have an established team of employees, who all have more than 10 years of accounting experience. You will have a primary bookkeeper who will be familiar with you and your business. And you will always get to know our management team as well!
In 2021, Barry and Julie took advantage of the entirely online nature of their work, and moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they are enjoying the Land of Enchantment. All other team members live in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.
Julie founded Silver Pearl Inc. in 2010 after a 25-year career in which she managed finances, people and computers for Fortune 500 companies, as well as small start-ups. With computer science and human factors/industrial engineering degrees from the University of Wisconsin and University of Massachusetts, Julie’s professional career included work for Pitney Bowes, PPG Biomedical Systems, a multi-state energy company, and her own consulting practice where she managed 12 employees. From 2003-2008, she was a program manager for Microsoft, in Redmond, Washington.
Upon moving to North Carolina in 2008 and shedding the corporate lifestyle of long hours and long commutes, Julie founded The Grey Muzzle Organization, a non-profit that has granted over $4.5 million in funding to animal shelters, rescue organizations, sanctuaries, and other groups nationwide. In her role as President of Silver Pearl Inc., Julie draws upon her past experiences to quickly analyze and effectively determine how to best collaborate with people to achieve their goals. Through Julie’s clear communications style and down-to-earth approach, clients come to rely upon her as a trusted resource.
Before joining Julie full-time at Silver Pearl in 2013, Barry worked for 30 years in the Information Technology industry. In the tech world, Barry has been a technical architect, lead developer and trainer. His technology work for financial institutions included developing and supporting a large Accounts Payable and General Ledger system. He had a great reputation for working closely with users, managers, and executives to help them solve problems, and he brings that attitude to Silver Pearl to help our clients get more from their financials, including working more effectively with their CPAs.
Barry works with a number of our attorney clients, keeping them on-track for Bar reporting. In addition to skills gained through formal accounting courses, Barry uses his project management and analysis skills to help Silver Pearl’s clients understand their accounting to better manage their businesses. Barry also programs custom Excel spreadsheets from QuickBooks data or other sources, to solve specific reporting and data exchange problems for clients. When not dealing with numbers, Barry enjoys music and dabbling in audiophile equipment. He spent many years in California and Washington where he developed a love of wine, which he continues in New Mexico.
Gaynor Fries spent over 20 years supporting C-Level executives in England, Japan, and Bermuda, before moving to North Carolina and starting her own administrative support business, switching her focus to supporting small business and nonprofits. Gaynor has an extensive background in administration and business management, along with numerous qualifications in Business Administration, a Paralegal Diploma and a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke University.
She has been a valued part of the Silver Pearl team since 2012, providing administrative assistance with scheduling, contracts, invoicing and ensuring our clients receive timely responses and the information they need.
When not plugged into a computer, Gaynor enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves to visit new places. She lives in Apex with her husband David, and, like most of the Silver Pearl team, is a huge dog lover.
Susan King has been a bookkeeper with Silver Pearl since 2012. Susan graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Mathematics and worked for the Department of Defense and then in the Telecommunications industry. In 2003, Susan started her own company, Companion Chi, to provide massage and energy work to animals and their people. She did her own bookkeeping and then started helping other businesses with their bookkeeping.
Susan met Julie and Barry when she worked with their dogs and also helped with the bookkeeping for The Grey Muzzle Organization, a nonprofit founded by Julie. Soon after Silver Pearl Inc. was founded, Susan joined the team as a bookkeeper.
In 2016, Susan completed an Associates in Accounting through Wake Tech and also earned her Bookkeeping Certification through the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. She lives in Apex with her husband, Jay, and several animals. Susan enjoys traveling, reading, cross stitching, and helping animal rescue groups.
Christy Pearsall has been a bookkeeper with Silver Pearl since 2017. Originally hailing from Upstate NY, Christy and her husband made North Carolina their home in 1999. They have 2 children and are also proud owners of a local, thriving swimming pool construction company (Destiny Pool Builders).
With an extensive background in bookkeeping, Christy brings a wealth of experience to our team, having worked with a diverse range of small businesses. Christy is able to navigate the intricacies of financial records for enterprises of all sizes, ensuring accuracy and compliance and she has a strong commitment to detail and organization.
Outside of her bookkeeping work, Christy is also a licensed real estate professional in North Carolina, where she assists friends to buy/sell real estate in her spare time. With a perfect blend of professional acumen, personal warmth, and a touch of entrepreneurial spirit, Christy is a valued member of the bookkeeping team at Silver Pearl.
